I started out my photography career at the tender age of 14 when I discovered a high school photography class. It turned out to be one of my favorite subjects in school. I also excelled in sports, so it wasn't long before I was able to intertwine my two passions! Sports photography came very easily to me because I was able to envision what was going to happen next on the field, enabling me to get that perfect picture. While other kids were asking for a new bike for Christmas, I wanted darkroom equipment. It wasn't long before I had my own darkroom and was selling sports photography, to the soccer moms of the sixties. Like most artists the time comes when your focus shifts, to a profession with job security. I continued to practice my photography, you know, the guy that all his friends asked to do the photography for their wedding for free! Or could you please stop by Little Johnny's basketball game, maybe you could get a good shot! I wish I had a dollar for every photograph that I've taken developed, mounted, and given away for free. On the positive side my diverse photographic background has fortunately given me the ability and the enjoyment of photographing all subject matter. From sports, landscaping, portraits, macro photography, wildlife I love it all. I'm also fortunate that my wife of 33 years has also found the same passion for photography that I have.

If someone asked me to describe my approach to photography, I would have to say I'm optimistic. The world is a beautiful place filled with a great shot around every corner, if you are only there to capture it. The subject matter is endless, peoples faces are all beautiful, unique and extraordinary, with an ever-changing light, landscape and time. Over the years I have always tried to capture a glimpse into a moment in time, both for my own memory and to share that moment with someone else. Back in the beginning that was accomplished with the most basic equipment and knowledge. However, I have always tried to look outside the box, finding something unique, original, or different about the subject matter that I'm trying to capture. I love taking pictures of people, especially children, capturing the sparkle that you can see behind their eyes, and if you can see that sparkle and a smile on the face of someone who looks at that picture, you know you've caught the moment. I have to say, there's also a lot of luck involved, both in capturing the moment, and in also having a amazing husband who is willing to share the technical side of photography. My husband is a great teacher, with many years of experience, he has been quite willing to share that information. So I think you have to balance the technical side, while still being able to see and capture the moment. Optimistic? Yes, I guess I believe my next best picture is just around the corner.
